Dear Artist:

The A.E. Backus Museum & Gallery’s 48th season is almost over and we're ready to start planning our next season. It has been an amazing year. The public has responded enthusiastically to our varied exhibits. The quality of work exhibited in the Gallery as well as the patrons appreciation of it just grows.

The Gallery is seeking applications from those interested in exhibiting with us during the 2008-2009 Season. Our shows generally run on a three to four week schedule from late in September through mid-July. Typically we feature 4/6 different artists in the Gallery’s 5,000 sq. ft. exhibition area. Two-dimensional artists are assigned an exhibition area of their own with sculpture and other three-dimensional work placed on pedestals throughout the Gallery. Artists pay a 25% commission on originals sold and 35% commission on reproductions. Please review the Rules for Exhibiting for further clarification.

We have gone to an online application process and will no longer accept slides or paper applications. To apply as a featured artist, complete the Online Application that follows this letter. After you fill in the basic contact information and submit it you will be taken to a blank email. Please attach five representative digital images of your artwork with their descriptions plus a current artist’s resume to the email and send it to us. If you wish to be considered to exhibit next season please submit your completed application by May 24, 2008. No application will be accepted after that date and no application will be reviewed without digital images of your work and an artist’s resume.

A jurying committee will make the selection of exhibitors for the upcoming season. Applicants will be notified via email or telephone by the second week of June. We must receive your acceptance and payment of the $125.00 Exhibition Fee by no later than June 25, 2008 or the exhibition invitation will be offered to another applicant. If you plan to travel over the summer, be sure to include contact information so that we may reach you. If you have a cell phone, please include the number on your application.
