On permanent exhibit in the Gallery are more than 30 Backus paintings and original artist’s sketches. In addition to the original work on display, the Gallery exhibits the palette, paints and brushes Backus used to create his paintings. Additional photographs and personal effects round out the Gallery’s Backus exhibit.

The Gallery’s collection presents a vibrant selection of Backus’ paintings encompassing the breadth of Florida landscapes as well as the development of his style and skill. Included in the exhibit is the earliest known Backus, painted in 1918 when he was 12 years old, as well as his last painting, left unfinished at the time of his death in 1990.

The Gallery greatly appreciates the generous donation of paintings to our permanent collection. We depend on generous patrons of the arts to help build the collection. All donations are tax deductible for the full appraised value. If you are interested in donating your painting or making a memorial bequeath to the Gallery, please contact us.
